ELECTION DAY

The following board positions will be up for election at the next Century Neighborhood meeting at the Southside Community Center.  Each of the positions requires the candidate to serve a minimum one-year term.  If you are interested in running, please call Frank Fantino 226-2198 or Email fantino@msn.com. 

Most of these duties are to maintain the association and are not expected to be excessively time consuming.  It will be a good opportunity for other neighbors to lend a hand, network, meet new neighbors, and improve our neighborhood.  Your help in these positions would be greatly appreciated.

FIRST NEIGHBORHOOD PICNIC A ROUSING SUCCESS

The Social Committee thanks everyone who turned out for the Century Neighborhood Association First Annual Picnic held at Shady Oaks Park.  It was a great success, and we could not have done it without the support of so many.  We had about 53 homes out of our neighborhood come to the picnic, with a total of about 150 people.  Officers from the San Jose Police Department mounted patrol came over with their horses, and our local firefighters brought over a fire engine.  Council member Forrest Williams spoke at the start of the picnic. There was plenty for the kids to do including an Astro Jump, and lots of activities for the adults.  Numerous door prizes were given out by our generous sponsors.

NEIGHBORS GET DOWN AND DIRTY ON COYOTE ROAD

The Beautification Committee would like to thank all the neighbors who pitched in on the Beautification Days in April and June. Dozens of Indian Hawthorn bushes and daffodils were planted.  It was truly amazing to see the transformation of the landscape on Coyote Road.  Special thank you’s go to the Social Committee, Jamba Juice and Myrtha Staud (Century 21 Realty) for providing our neighbors with food and refreshments.  Also, one of our neighbors, Cam Balbin, was kind enough to supply donuts on three of the planting dates.

NOVEMBER BEAUTIFICATION  - MORE THANKS

On November 3rd, the Beautification Committee and many tireless neighbors planted 500 daffodils and replanted shrubs on the median islands.  It was a crisp morning and work went quickly.  Our hardy neighbors were "nourished" with some refreshments.  Home Depot replaced all the shrubs at no charge to the Association, and the daffodils were provided by San Jose Beautiful.  We are looking forward to seeing the blooming daffodils next spring.  Thank you for your help.

We also need your help in keeping the parkland and median islands clean.  We need more neighbors to sign up for regular maintenance that would only take a day or two of your time yearly to pick up litter, weeds and sweep the area.  That way we all can enjoy our joint effort in keeping our area beautiful.  Please call Ardell Alcantar to let her know when you would be available to help us out. 

The city plans to replace a small oak tree on the median near Century Plaza Way soon.  Also a water line will be connected to the median islands in the Fall of 2002.
