I don't believe a select few should determine how a school should run their activities and fund raisers. The public schools are already at a disadvantage due to financial pressures and overcrowding. So many programs have already been eliminated. Programs that I remember utilizing and enjoying when I was in school. Programs that shaped my adulthood.

Why can't we just let kids be kids? The teenage suicide rate in the United States has increased due to kids being overstressed, under exercised, and forced to practically raise themselves due to both parents working. Now, we're going to impact them more by cutting back funds and activities which help to relieve these stressors? Give the kids a break here. Part of learning to be a valued member of society is learning to cope with competition, learning to relax and have fun, creating an atmosphere of team work and team accomplishments, learning to deal with defeat, and providing the opportunity to experience being a winner! Not to mention the life long advantages of being healthier and more fit!

As they say in the corporate environment, hands on experience is the best way to learn. These activities provide valuable stepping stones to being a active participant in society and being a healthier society. Today, the U.S. has more obese people than any other country. Why? Because we have become too busy!! We don't have time! If we continue to ignore the importance of these activities, society as a whole will surely suffer.

How about this alternative: The State of California has already set up specified times for noise reduction in this state. Couldn't we follow these rules as a compromise in this situation? If the noise reduction law is ok for the entire state, why isn't it ok for the select few that are complaining? This means that we could have evening activities and more usage of the field, but would still follow the state law guidelines for quiet time in the evenings and on weekends. If the law is good enough for the state, it should be good enough for the community. After all, we voted for it!
