Subj: Coming to a neighborhood near you???
From: JLadasky@aol.com

Are you reading the Almaden Valley news about the sex offenders group home?

It is being shut down and the non-arrested members are being moved to other homes. WHERE?????

Maybe in your neighborhood.

Do you know where the other group homes are?

Is this a shell game of hide the offenders some where else?

The news last night mentioned there are 20 other such homes in San Jose. It was not clear to me whether they were just sex offender homes or all types of group homes. I have one in my neighborhood for drug and alcohol rehabilitation. It was permitted there by Charlotte Powers and the San Jose City Council, over the objections of the local residents.

I see some justification for the homes for people with non-violent histories. I assume the recovering alcoholics to be harmless; however, some of the drug offenders have robbed and stolen to support their habit. They are not just users. We requested that the inhabitiants be screened for non-violence, to no avail.

The Mercury News says that: "Usually, group homes maintain no more than parolees at a time... The owner of the home, according to officials, works under contract with the state and receives $950 per parolee each month. Tenants are overseen by a supervisor and have their activities reviewed regularly.

The home in my neighborhood has 13 adult residents in a typical 5 bedroom house. There is NO supervision. All the people residing at the location are in the program.

13 times $950 per person is $12350 per month paid to the group home operator by the state. That money comes from our taxes.

I guess when somebody get hurts in my neighborhood they will close it down and move the inhabitants somewhere else. But where? to your neighborhood?
