Subj: RE: Median traffic islands in Santa Teresa area
From: andrew.mendoza@ci.sj.ca.us (Mendoza, Andrew)

Scott:

Per your request, here is a brief overview of Median Island Projects with in Dist. 2 Santa Teresa/Edenvale. Please keep in mind that the main focus of the CSJ Median Island Improvement Program is targeted to those Median Island that have no and/or little landscaping. Although there may be a few in that condition, the gateway sites into Dist. 2 are well underway. Please note that project timelines are based on the scope of the project.

Santa Teresa Blvd. (Cottle Rd to Bernal Rd. and Avenida Espana to Bayliss):

The project includes (and has always included) new curbs, decorative paving, tree planting, and irrigation. City staff plans to rebid and award bid in late August 1999; contractor would start construction in Sep. 1999; and the project will be completed in Feb. 2000.

* I understand Public Works and Redevelopment Agency staff are working on a extensive needs assessment for a Capital Improvement Program for Santa Teresa (A venida Espana to Blossom Ave). The study should be completed by Summer 2000.

BLOSSOM HILL RD. (Lean Ave. to Beswick Dr.):

The project includes (and has always included) new curbs, decorative paving, tree planting, and irrigation.

Timeline: City staff plans to rebid and award bid in late August 1999; contractor would start construction in Sep. 1999; and the project will be completed in Feb. 2000.

BERNAL RD.: (Non-Landscaped portion from Via Del Oro to Santa Teresa Blvd.):

Project includes trees, plants/flowers, decorative paving and irrigation.

Timeline: Award contract in late Aug. 1999, and the project should be completed by the end of Sep. 1999.

COTTLE RD.:

I understand Public Works and Redevelopment Agency staff are working on a extensive needs assessment for a Capital Improvement Program for Cottle Rd. (Poughkeepsie Rd. to Santa Teresa Blvd.) The study should be completed by Summer 2000.

MONTEREY HWY.: ( Senter Rd. to Blossom Hill):

Project includes a number of trees (e.g., possibly 50+ Ash, Evergreen and Oak). Public Works staff is also working on the possibility for additional plants/scrubs etc.

Timeline: City staff plans to rebid and award bid in late August 1999; contractor would start construction in Sep. 1999; and the project will be completed in Feb./March 2000.

CHYNOWETH AVE.: (by Hayes Mansion,; Lean to Snell Ave.):

Project includes irrigation system and 52 - 15' gal. Pistacia Chinensis trees.

Timeline: Award contract in Oct. 1999 and project will be completed in Nov. 1999.

THANK YOU,

Andrew

Subject: Median traffic islands in Santa Teresa area

Hello Charlotte,

I hope you have enjoyed (or are enjoying) your vacation and are well rested. I just received an email regarding median traffic islands in the Santa Teresa area and I remember seeing in the last city council minutes that apparently the city has been working on improving the median traffic islands in part of Santa Teresa. However, it said that the bids were rejected by the city council and need to be rebid.

Could you provide an update to the community regarding this project and any others in the Santa Teresa/Blossom Valley community? It appears the scope of the project has changed as well.

What is the Santa Teresa Median Island Repair Project (Cottle Road to Bernal Road)? What did it propose to accomplish and what now does the scope of the project plan to accomplish?

Are there any plans to work on the medians south of Bernal or north of Cottle?

Are there any plans to work on the medians of Bernal Road and/or Cottle Road?

Best regards,

Scott A. Scholz
