Subj: Re: Calpine's new Ken Abreu

Why Calpine Ken left Humboldt:

  1. The County Board os Supes wanted an independent health and safety study BEFORE an ERTN was signed.

  2. 1500 people showed up at the City Council meeting in our Muni Auditorium. The meeting was held to consider and ERTN with Calpine. Nearly 100 spoke and a huge majority opposed.

  3. The Council meeting was to be continued 2 days latter for another 100 folks who had signed up to speak.

  4. Calpine polled the Council before the second meeting (and vote) and realized the ERTN would not pass.

  5. Rather than face a NO vote by the Council (and associated bad press) they withdrew.

Ken and the rest pust a really likeable face on their presentations to the community. Yet all the while they were working behind the scenes for over a year. This included getting paid staff within the County and City to sign non-disclosre agreements regarding their proposal. Agreements that kept staff from releasing information to the elected officials.
