The other day I was reading about niche stores that Wal-Mart is creating called Small-Mart. They're intended to be "neighborhood" markets and fill the gap between convenience stores and large supermarkets. Wal-Mart is still test marketing the concept, but it sounds like a good idea and one that might work for this area.
