Subj: Coyote Valley Development Feedback

This is a prime example of needless growth without a viable plan. I think it would be great to have the economic benefits that the Cisco presence would have offered, but now that they have backed out, I think the money, time and effort for that project should be put into improving San Jose's existing infrastruction. I don't think an ecclectic mix of businesses in Coyote valley will make living in South San Jose any more desireable, and it can only make the gridlock extend further south. It would be better to focus on our existing problems. For example, downtown SJ needs retail stores and other attractions to make it a more people-friendly place rather than an employees-only destination. Also, there are terrible traffic problems at places like the Almaden Expy/Blossom Hill intersection that should be alleviated to maintain South San Jose's accessibility to the rest of the South Bay. In fact, the sure-to-come traffic problems were my biggest concern with the Cisco project... it does not seem possible that 101 and Almaden could hold more traffic. Having said all that, I want to make it clear that I am not opposed to growth in Coyote Valley, but I think it should be much further down the priority list, and definitely below fixing existing traffic problems, and San Jose's lack of live/work communities.

Gary S.
